Rodents: Furry Doesn’t Mean Friendly

What they do:
Rodents sneak into homes through small openings, chew through wires, insulation, and food packaging, and spread diseases through droppings and urine. They reproduce quickly, making small problems grow fast.

Mice:

  • Smaller (2–4 inches, not including tail)

  • Light brown or gray in color

  • Small droppings (like rice grains)

  • Often heard in walls or ceilings

Rats:

  • Larger (7–10 inches, not including tail)

  • Brown (Norway rat) or black (roof rat)

  • Larger droppings (banana seed-sized)

  • Often found in basements, crawlspaces, or attics

Signs of Infestation:

  • Droppings in cabinets, pantries, or along walls

  • Scratching or scurrying noises in walls or ceilings

  • Chew marks on food containers, wires, or wood

Prevention Tips:

  • Store food (including pet food) in sealed containers

  • Keep kitchens and pantries clean and free of crumbs

  • Declutter garages, attics, and storage areas where rodents can nest

  • Trim trees and shrubs away from the house
